June + July.

My reading has taken a great downward turn over the last two months. Mostly I just have a lot less time now that I am working 4 days a week at the sawmill and 3 days a week at camp. In June, I only read one book, so I didn't bother doing a post at all. July was a wee bit better.

I am at a total of 40 books so far this year. Which is exciting.
Here are the goods:

  • The Wind in the Willows     (Kenneth Grahame)     - I thought I had read this before, but really wasn't sure. As I read it I realized that I don't think I had read it. It is just a familiar story. I think my grandparents might have had an animated movie of it. A lot of the plot points were familiar but not "I've definitely read this before" familiar.
  • The Illumination    (Kevin Brockmeier)     - The premise of this one is very interesting. Basically, all at once, all over the world, people's pain begin to show as light. So if you cut yourself, light pours out of it. If you have cancer, it glows through your skin. The book then follows different people as they navigate this very different but also exactly the same world. This author intrigues me greatly. I have another book of his lined up to read.
  • Atonement     (Ian McEwan)     - I saw this movie a long time ago. I was pretty sure this book would frustrate me greatly. I was right. Little girl wrecks everything. She thinks she can atone for it by writing a story where the people whose lives she has wrecked are happy.
  • Eleanor & Park     (Rainbow Rowell)    - This was a random borrow from the library. It was cute.
  • Why Not Me?     (Mindy Kaling)     - Classic famous person book. I enjoyed it. There are very few famous people whose books I would read. So far that list is Mindy Kaling and Amy Poehler.
